Denki is a modern light made entirely from bamboo. Standing with a sense of balance this light is an intriguing object, which is not obviously a light to the casual observer. The bulb is hidden with-in the core of the bamboo, which is cut away to revel the pure cream inside so rarely seen. In contrast the exterior of the bamboo has been completely hidden using lacquer to heighten the sense of mystery. There is a floor and desk version. Freyja created this piece during a four month scolarship to Japan during which she explored the modern potential of this beautiful and environmentally sound material. The light can be assembled into either an up light or down at the users discretion using the simple tripod stand inspired by an ancient Korean bamboo instrument. It features an LED bulb, which can be to 80% more energy efficient and lasts much longer then even a compact fluorescent.
