About Freyja

👩‍🎨 Background

Freyja connected to nature at an early age, growing up in Cornwall she spent her childhood building forts and exploring caves on the endless beaches. It was clear from the obsessive drawing and model making that a life of creation and design was before her. The seed of her science fiction obsession was also started here, snuggling up on the sofa to watch Startrek with her brothers.

She graduated from 3D Design at Brighton University in 2011. During her degree, she won a scholarship to Nagoya University of Arts, which provided an inspiring insight to Japanese design culture, a core continuing source of inspiration in both her personal and professional life. She was able to return to Japan for two years as a Daiwa Scholar in 2014, before coming back to London to complete her MA in Design Products at the RCA.

A proud Jack-Of-All-Trades, Freyja has spent that last decade working on a wide variety of interdisciplinary projects, both as an independent creative and team employee/leader. She explores her unique Bioscifi style across a world of design, including VR/AR, art performance, interior design, costume and UX+I.

Nature first - Freyja believes designing and creating low-impact or regenerative work is a beautiful and joyful opportunity to find new solutions and aesthetics.

Intention creates reality - Freyja believes we desperately need a radically new collective vision of the future, a bright optimistic world with inclusivity, diversity, accountability and love for our planet as foundational principles.

Interdisciplinary - She has proactively built up a connection to worlds that others often see as separate, working to unite spirituality with science, ancient natural wisdom with cutting edge technology and individual creativity with collective dreaming.

Biophilic Design is at the core of everything Freyja does, utilizing both quantitive research and her own personal connection she believes nature holds the answer for many of the biggest problems facing us a species.

Collaboration and co-design are essential, by combining our unique skills and stories we are stronger together.

Optimism is dynamic, fear is paralysis.
